XCape presents a hybrid vehicle whose space is generated by variable folding configurations and can be used in a variety of ways. The project was part of the interdisciplinary ‘Space Suit Extended’ Seminar by Prof. Nils Krüger and Prof. Christiane Sauer. It focuses on the mobile interface between people and the environment, an individual environment, a third skin - the expansion of the spacesuit into a temporary field of life and action. Furthermore it examines the idea of the space suit in the context of body and space, of portable spatial functions. We are designing a mobile cover for different uses, which allows us to open up new terrain - both on and possibly beyond the earth - and to support elementary functions.
